April 3rd, 2024 – Sales & Trading Panel

This past week, we were joined by Alana Phillips and Matthew Arons for our Sales & Trading Panel Discussion. Alana Phillips is currently an Associate in the High Yield Sales and Trading team at UBS, while Matthew Arons holds the position of Associate Credit Trader at J.P. Morgan. During the discussion, our panelists delved deep into the role of Sales & Trading at an Investment Bank and discussed the skills and abilities desired in potential intern and full-time candidates. March 20th, 2024 – Final Round of the Stock Pitch Competition

Tonight’s meeting wrapped up our internal stock pitch competition for the spring semester with the final round. We gained comprehensive insights into the business models, financial well-being, and industry analyses of three prominent companies through the presentation of in-depth stock pitches delivered by members of the Finance Society and the Women’s Finance Association. We’re excited to hear the competition results and offer congratulations to the winners.

February 28th, 2024 – Point72 Asset Management

Tonight, we hosted an informative session with Point72 Asset Management, spotlighting the firm’s culture, internship opportunities, and various divisions, including Point72 Academy. During their firm presentation, Point72 emphasized a collaborative work environment and a commitment to excellence. Attendees gained insights into internship programs and the qualities Point72 seeks in prospective candidates. For students aspiring to join the finance industry, this session provided invaluable guidance and an inside look into opportunities at Point72!

February 14th, 2023 – First Round of the Stock Pitch Competition

Tonight we held the first round of our internal stock pitch competition for the spring semester. We gained comprehensive insights into the business models, financial well-being, and industry analyses of three prominent companies through the presentation of in-depth stock pitches delivered by members of the Finance Society and the Women’s Finance Association. Our panel of judges asked clarifying questions to each group and assessed the competitors of our event. We’re excited to see teams present again in the final round later this spring!

February 7th, 2024 – New England Asset Management

Tonight, the Finance Society was pleased to be joined by New England Asset Management, a Connecticut-based asset management firm, that specializes in the management of the portfolios of Insurance Companies. During their presentation, they took a deep dive into the intricacies of asset management and the different strategies they employ for their clients. Throughout the presentation, students asked questions regarding asset allocation, firm culture, and recruiting opportunities. It was a pleasure to host NEAM!

Tonight, Finance Society was pleased to be joined by Goldman Sachs. We hosted a panel-like discussion with three UConn alumni across the External Investing Group (XIG), Technology, Media, and Telecom (TMT), and Investment Banking Services (IBS). Students in attendance learned more about the cross-functional nature of Goldman‘s vast suite of financial products and services as well as what skills and abilities are desired in potential candidates. November 15th, 2023 – Stock Pitch Competition: Final Round

Tonight’s meeting wrapped up our internal stock pitch competition for the fall semester with the final round. We gained comprehensive insights into the business models, financial well-being, and industry analyses of four prominent companies through the presentation of in-depth stock pitches delivered by members of the Finance Society and the Women’s Finance Association. Our distinguished panel of judges, featuring Pei-ju Lee of Bradley Foster and Sargent, alongside esteemed UConn Professors Liping Qiu and Frank Kroger, assessed the finalists of our event. We’re excited to hear the competition results and offer congratulations to the winners.

November 8th, 2023 – CT Green Bank

Tonight, we were joined by Connecticut Green Bank, which is the nation’s first green bank. Their mission is to confront climate change and energize the green economy. During their presentation, they talked about the main energy challenges that we face, and how their bank targets these problems. The presentation also covered clean energy investments, and their three product lines that they offer for investments. After the presentation, there was time for students to ask questions to gain a deeper understanding about their mission and goals.

November 1st, 2023 – Commonfund

Tonight, we welcomed UConn alums to introduce us to Commonfund, a Connecticut based non-profit asset management firm that specializes in the management of the portfolios of non-profit organizations. During their presentation, they took a deep dive into the world of endowments and explained the importance of intergenerational equity of diversification of accounts. Our guests walked us through Commonfund’s investment philosophy as well as their portfolio construction process. Throughout the presentation, students were able to ask any and all questions they may have had regarding endowments, asset allocation, and the difference between liquid and illiquid asset classes to name a few.
