Our final meeting of the semester was done virtually over Zoom. We were grateful to have Shap Smith, a Managing Director at Citi, join us. Shap discussed the major trends he’s seen so far in banking and other major industries such as oil, gas, airlines, retail, and more. He discussed what we might see in the future: bankruptcies, companies restructuring their balance sheets, and more.

Today we held our first virtual meeting via Zoom! A UConn School of Business alum, who is currently an Investment Banking Analyst at BNP Paribas in NYC, discussed the credit shock that’s risen as a result of the rapid spread of COVID-19. The pandemic has been having detrimental consequences across every asset class.

This meeting was the last meeting before break and the last in-person meeting of the Spring 2020 semester. It was a productive current events discussion between Finance Society members. The drastic changes going on in the markets recently were discussed, among other current events.

The FDIC presented at this meeting to Finance Society members. They gave an insightful, educational presentation on their role within the economy. In addition, they shared upcoming full-time opportunities for business students. We were also able to hear from a student within our School of Business, who provided information regarding Point 72 Asset Management’s Academy Program.
